Have you ever felt stuck?  Like there’s something more, but you don’t know what it is? You might feel tongue-tied, indecisive and paralyzed. When something stops working, we are pulled in two different directions: one is to hold onto and fix the broken and familiar, the other is to make a fresh start.

We’ve all been there one time or another.

Often this feeling of paralysis is spurred by a natural life transition (like graduation, marriage, a new baby or a new job), an unanticipated change (the sudden loss of a loved one, a divorce, a job loss or move), or simply an inner drive for self-fulfillment and a need to shake things up.

I do this with my clients based on a book called Find Purpose Find Power by Denton Roberts. Years ago I found my purpose was to wake myself and others up (in that order!). As a psychotherapist, writer, corporate trainer and occasional clown - I need to sort through what life is offering me - if it doesn't jive with my purpose - it is not something I commit to. Makes a rather complicated life a wee bit simpler.

Thank you for the wonderful article! I have printed it out and am making notes beside each paragraph. I had already decided my theme for 2011: "In 2010 I survived. In 2011 I will LIVE!"
